An engineer in computer sciences by education, Koen first experienced the energy and creative drive of a (then) startup while working for Enfocus (now an Esko company). The combination of music and technology being his main interest however, he decided to pursue his passion at Ghent University (IPEM / DSSP) where he worked for several years as a senior R&D engineer in the fields of computational music analysis and interactive multimedia. He received funding from IWT (now VLAIO) to work on a post-doc level project on applications of percussion-related music analysis, and founded the company SampleSumo at the end of 2007. Koen followed the management programmes "Technology Transfer" and "Innovation Management for SMEs" at Vlerick Business School and is an early member of the VOKA networking organization BRYO. He was also one of the developers of Smartelectronix and was an advisor for Wikifonia and (early) MuseScore.
